All Pomeranians go through the puppy uglies, some more graceful than others but they all go through it.  I put some photos at the bottom of this page to show you one of mine going through them not so gracefully!

What are the "PUPPY UGLIES"?

 

YOUR POMERANIAN WILL GO THROUGH MANY CHANGES IN HIS COAT DURING THE FIRST YEAR...

 

     AT 8-10 WEEKS OF AGE, WHICH IS NORMALLY WHEN A PUPPY IS TAKEN TO ITS NEW HOME, THE PUPPY IS A LITTLE BALL OF FUR,  AT 12-16 WEEKS YOUR PUPPY WILL GO THROUGH WHAT BREEDERS REFER TO AS "PUPPY UGLIES' OR 'POM UGLIES'. THEY LOSE MOST OF THEIR FLUFFY COAT LEAVING THEM LOOKING VERY AWKWARD. IT IS THE LOSE OF THEIR PUPPY COAT AND THE ADULT COAT COMING IN AT THE SAME TIME.  I HAVE HAD  NEW OWNERS CALL WITH CONCERNS DURING THIS TIME THAT THEY HAVE NOT PURCHASED A FULL BLOODED POMERANIAN. WONDERING IF MAYBE THERE HAS BEEN A MIX UP AND THEY PURCHASED A MIXED BREED. I ASSURE THE NEW OWNERS THAT THEY HAVE PURCHASED A PUREBRED POMERANIAN PUPPY AS I ONLY RAISE POMERANIANS AND THAT POMERANIAN PUPPIES HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AWKWARD STAGES OF ADOLESCENTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 7 MONTHS.  BY THE TIME YOUR LIL ONE IS 10-12 MONTHS HE WILL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DOUBLE COAT JUST LIKE HIS MOMMY AND DADDY. 

 

     ALL POMERANIANS GO THROUGH THIS AND IT IS NOT ALWAYS PRETTY.  REST ASSURED THEY WILL GROW OUT OF IT AND BE THE BEAUTIFUL POMERANIAN YOU WERE LOOKING FOR.

This is Rushmore at 7 weeks, he is an orange sable party.  What a cutie huh?

 

Rush at 3 months, still cute but getting scruffy.

This is Rushmore at 7 months, he is looking better now, another 6-8 weeks and he will have his full adult coat.  He is going to have a beautiful full and thick coat.

 

Here is a picure or Rushmore's coat now at just over 1 year of age.

Now he has a beautiful coat so be patient, you gangly, adulecent will grow up to be a beautiful pomeranian also.

This is Dante' at 10 weeks old.  What a cutie huh?

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN SUCH AN UGLY POM?  I HAVEN'T!!!  A FACE ONLY A MOTHER COULD LOVE4.5 months.

 

This is Dante' at 4.5 months old.  He is really in his "puppy uglies" now!

Soon he will be have a beautiful coat.
